    词汇新条目之19 - [Urbandic words]

    1. fourth of july:
      The day people light things on fire, and blame it on loving their country.
      police officer: hey, you kids, that type of fireworks is illegal!
      kid: dude, its the fourth of july. just showing some love for my country.
      police officer: oh. in that case. toss me an m-80.
    2. sucker:

      Yesterday,  All across America we celebrated our independence.  We paraded and BBQ'd and partied and played and from what I understand there may have been some drinking involved in certain quarters.

      I gotta tell you foks,  I'm a sucker for fireworks.  I love 'em. And living in the crowded northeast corridor there are fireworks close by every night since Monday last.

    3. distill: 提取精华，蒸馏
      Bob Dylan distilled a generation of thoughts and wrote.."They say that Patriotism is the last refuge to which a scoundrel clings, Steal a little and they'll throw you in jail, steal a lot and they'll make you a king"....and I think we all see the truths therein. 
    4. instigate:教唆 ,煽动,唆使,策动 ,主使,激励
      But even the casual student of history soon learns that Patriotism/Nationalism has instigated many wars.  Battles over territories and resources dot the history of the world like peppe‘roni(意大利香肠) on a pizza.
    5. chime in:插话

      This is from the White Album sessions. What I really like about this is that you get to hear George Martin (producer) discussing with Paul about how to evolve "Mother Nature's Son." Paul suggests that a string quartet(四重奏) would sound nice, and George M. says maybe it would be nice if it sounded like it's coming from the distance. Then John Lennon chimes in via speaker from the next room and suggests a "brass band"(管乐，吹奏乐队). As any Beatles fan knows, the final version of "Mother Nature's Son" features a brass band that sounds like it's coming from the distance. Thanks John & George M. for your contributions!

      Paul eventually transitions to "Blackbird" in this take(在这次尝试中).

    6. Monterey Bay:蒙特瑞湾
      位于美国西岸硅谷之南的蒙特瑞湾(Monterey Bay)是看鲸鱼和海豚的好地方。它拥有北美最大和最深的海底峡谷，而且离海岸线非常之近。Although fog and low clouds swirled here and there over Monterey Bay tonight, they didn’t really intrude on(打扰) the 4th of July celebration.I was in the crowd on hand at the Presidio, and enjoyed a decent rendition(演奏) of the traditional Independence Day fireworks display.No marching band music or cheesy(俊俏，潇洒的，下等的，质量低下的) rock soundtrack.Just booms(隆隆) and bangs(砰砰) from the sky above and oohs and ahhs from the crowd below.
    7. West Side Story:
      But in my head, I could hear a specific version of composer Leonard Bernstein's (United States conductor and composer (1918-1990)) "America" from the musical "West Side Story"(《西区故事》,一部美国戏剧作品,最早以音乐剧形式在百老汇和伦敦西区剧院上演,之后经过改编拍成电影并获得多项奥斯卡金像奖殊荣)- the outrageous 1968 instrumental interpretation of the song by the British prog-rock(前卫摇滚) band The Nice.
    8. ensemble:合奏，合奏团
      The Nice was a late ‘60s ensemble built around the flamboyant(艳丽的，炫耀的) keyboard gymnastics of Keith Emerson. Signed to Rolling Stones’ manager Andrew Loog Oldham’s Immediate label, The Nice recorded and released four provocative(煽动的，刺激的) albums between 1967 and 1970 (plus a post-break-up 1971 collection), mixing rock, jazz and classical strains with a mordant wit(辛辣的，妙语) that undercut(削弱，压价) what might have otherwise been painfully pretentious(不是装模作样的，是自命不凡的).
    9. Erotic:性爱的，色情的
      Erotic touch of love was a 1965 French soft-porn(软色情) movie, starring those well-known household names Fabienne Dali and Sophie Hardy,  that I suspect will be regarded as laughable these days. It is also the name of a very obscure Dennis Alcapone 45, released on Keith Hudson's Inbidmts label in about 1971, on an old rhythm obtained from the totally obscure "CB" archives; nobody to this day knows what the original tune was, whether it was ever released, or even who "CB" was. There was one previous cut released, namely "Always" by Al Brown
    10. amble:缓行,溜蹄
      On my last trip up to the Kings Peak Mountain Range in Humboldt County, Ca., a bear came into our camp on a daily basis. Mostly we found chewed up toothpaste, but one morning I had the misfortune to be up early and there he was! YIKES!....(he ambled away, back into the bushes from whence he came. Whew! And so, here is a cheery little bear song from Mother Hips.
